Habitat for Humanity Volunteers will help organize/maintain store inventory by repackaging, labeling, and measuring ReStore stock! ReStore provides a diverse selection of building materials at reduced prices and serves as a community recycling center for such materials. This is a great opportunity to serve in the local community and help those in need.
Humane Society
Jubilee Market BMSA encourages students to explore Waco and its diverse range of events that occur every month. An event that Waco's community is hosting Saturday, November 12th from 10 am - 2:00 pm is Jubilee's Health Fair. The event is offering free health care services, nutritional guidance, giveaways, and games for all who attend. This is a great opportunity to learn about Waco's community and the role local organizations such as Mission Waco Mission World play in educating and serving the community.
Caritas Food Pantry At Caritas Food Pantry, volunteers will join an assembly line to load shopping carts with fresh produce, frozen meat, canned goods, and other food items. The food in the shopping carts will be distributed to members of the Waco community.
Special Olympics Come volunteer with the Texas Special Olympics Team on Thursday afternoons. We will be working with the players during their tennis practices to help keep things organized and keep players motivated.
Friends for Life Tool Shed Volunteers can help sort, organize, clean, and repair donated items for the Tool Shed Thrift Store. This is a great opportunity to help an awesome organization in the Waco area! This event will be limited to 5-7 people, so sign up as early as possible!
Mission Waco Clothesline
Living Springs Living Springs is a memory care living facility for patients with varying levels of Alzheimers or dementia. The community can house up to 16 patients at a time. At Living Springs we will be interacting with the patients and making a simple designated craft with them. All materials for the craft will be provided, please just be sure to bring a mask with you!
Community Healthcare Card Writing Come volunteer with us at the Community Healthcare of Texas Card Writing Event on Monday February 21th. We will be meeting at Moody Library at 5PM. The event will consist of writing and decorating ten cards for seniors in the Community Healthcare of Texas nursing home. Thus, you must bring ten pieces of blank printer paper and markers/crayons to decorate!
Love Letters for Kids Millions of children from low-income neighborhoods lack the tools they need to learn to read. With your help, we can change this. Volunteers create literacy kits for preschoolers in need. These handmade packets comprise 26 flashcards (A through Z), a short note from the volunteer, and a list of educational games to play at home.
Pack of Hope: Packing At this event, we get to help pack bags of food for children who do not have enough food for the weekends, which is a great way to physically make a difference in the community. We do this in an assembly line that moves very fast, so come ready to work! This happens on Wednesday mornings.
Pack of Hope: Unpacking Come help unpack the items needed for the assembly line the next day at Pack of Hope! We carpool over to the warehouse and work fairly quickly to help out this wonderful organization. It takes place on Tuesday afternoons.
Talitha Koum Talitha Koum was started in 1999. The name means “my child, rise up!” in Aramaic. It is an organization that provides care and brain development to at risk kids living in deep poverty. BMSA members meet and help clean the facility at the end of the day.
CareNet Pregnancy Center CareNet is a pro-life pregnancy center here in Waco. Come help out around the Center by organizing their Baby Boutique, assisting in the nursery and daycare, and helping them organize their fundraisers. This event happens on Wednesday mornings.
Waco Center for Youth The Waco Center for Youth (WCY) is a psychiatric residential treatment facility for teenagers with emotional difficulties or behavioral problems. The WCY mission is to “give each youth a chance for change”. By interacting with the youth through games and activities, the hope is for BMSA to be exposed to a different aspect of one’s health.
Urban REAP Urban REAP is Mission Waco’s aquaponics greenhouse that supplies fresh produce to Jubilee Market. Through their many sustainability projects, they are also able to help educate the community about environmentally beneficial practices like composting and collecting rainwater.
